New Copyleft cards

These are yet to be printed, but I'm hoping I can get it done with letterpress, having the grey as an inkless impression. Does anyone know of a printer that does letterpress in Norway?

Best vacaction message ever

A lot of my clients are on vacation now and it's common in Norway to set up a vacation message. Most are very dull and boring, but today I got a nice one back from Felipe at Mediafront:

vacation |vāˈkā sh ən; və-|
noun
1 an extended period of recreation, esp. one spent away from home or in traveling : he took a vacation in the south of France | people come here on vacation [as adj. ] a vacation home.
• a fixed holiday period between terms in schools and law courts.
2 the action of leaving something one previously occupied : his marriage was the reason for the vacation of his fellowship.
verb [ intrans. ]
take a vacation : I was vacationing in Europe with my family.
DERIVATIVES
vacationer |veɪˈkeɪʃ(ə)nər| |vəˈkeɪʃ(ə)nər| noun
vacationist |-ist| |veɪˈkeɪʃənəst| |vəˈkeɪʃənəst| noun
ORIGIN late Middle English : from Old French, or from Latin vacatio(n-), from vacare ‘be unoccupied’ (see vacate ).

Anyone alse seen a good one?

Diego in the forest x2

Cute panoramic picture my wife took and I put together.

Howto in Photoshop:
  • Cross process with "Curves", pump up green and red highlights, drop the shadows down a little, then do the inverse with blue.
  • Add a layer with "Neon edge" filter, using bright green. Then overlay it and make it about 30% transparent.
  • Add a layer with some gausian blur and overlay it as well.
This will add green saturation, make skin look like the 70s, add depth to shadows and make leaves shine.

Speed design - Guerra Jr.

We're doing a redesign of the website for a rally driver from Mexico called Benito Guerra Jr.

I started by talking to Jadiel who is bringing in the project. He showed me the old site to have an idea of the content. Then I went on an rampage of looking at websites linked from my favorite design blogs: PSDTuts, Smashing Magazine, and Abduzeedo. I screenshoted elements I liked and did a quick sketch of the layout on paper. For the colors I used Kuler, an Adobe project that lets you either create a palette from scratch, search for popular palettes and also upload an image and pick colors from it. I upload a picture of the front of the drivers last car. Then it was off to Photoshop, setting up a typical 8px based grid and did a quick mockup, which I like a lot.

Evolution of a design - Teks

I'm redoing the site for Teks.no, a center for electronic art. The style is pretty far from what I'd normally do and it's quite dificult to adapt to such a dark palette and so much content. I find it interesting to see how the design changes as the project goes forward. When I look at the current mockup and compare it to the first one I wonder what the hell I was thinking on the first draft.

WAYD logo

WAYD is a Twitterish system developed by our friends in Teknograd. I'm still a little unsure of exactly how it works, but it seems to be a more intelligent version of twitter, based on opesource code. I did a quick logo mockup for the iPhone version of it. Maybe I'll get to make a "fail whale" later.

Michael Jackson ringtones

In memory of the 80s, when I sometimes wore a glove on one hand and moonwalked on the carpet of my parent's house I'm switching from my MMMBop ringtone to Billie Jean today.

Leo Utskot has a Bacon number of 2.

I you don't know XKCD, don't bother. Todays strip is brilliant, no just because of the humor involved, but because my lack of knowledge about famous mathematicians led me down a wonderful wikipedia rabitthole (Paul Erdös > Erdös Number > Kevin Bacon number > Oracle of Bacon). My day has gotten considerably better with the knowledge that I have a Kevin Bacon number of 2.
